Master of Restless Shadows by
Ginn Hale My rating:
4 of 5 stars Have you ever read a book that you couldn't stop reading but once you'd finished you couldn't say if you _liked_ it or not? That is this book. Now bear with me, I know that's not the most encouraging of things to say so let me continue...
This book has phenomenal world building and characters and I could not stop reading it. I was drawn into the story completely, and the world that Ginn Hale created. I was _fascinated_ the entire time I read this, even as I scratched my head and pondered how I felt about the book.
This is very much the set up book of the series, and so there is a lot of myth and world building that takes place. You're introduced to a plethora of plots and people and it does take some getting used to in order to keep track of everything. There are literally plots within plots being created in this first book.
I would also say this is a slow-burn sort of romance. In fact there are only hints of romance throughout the first book.
If you like books/movies/tv shows like The Neverending Story, The Princess Bride and The Black Jewel Chronicles and Game of Thrones then give this book a try... it has elements of all those types of books and is also unique and interesting. I would suggest you read the synopsis as I'm not really getting into the plot but more into the whole experience of the book.
I will definitely be reading the next in the series because... still not sure if I like it but daaang, I am curious to see where this series goes.
