Book Review: Prince of Killers by Layla Reyne (Fog City #1)

Prince of Killers (Fog City, #1)Prince of Killers by Layla Reyne
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Okay first up, the warning! This book is a cliff-hanger. Do NOT expect a HEA or a HFN ending. It's the first of a series and as such it is a set up book, so no whinging at the ending coz you've been warned.

That being said.... OMG Layla has done it again!!! I am in LOVE with this book! the writing is slick, tight, fast-paced. The main character is an anti-hero you can root for, the other main character a bad-boy PI with a penchant for the anti-hero type. The plot is _spectacular_ and keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire book. I am already desperate for book 2 and I just finished book 1. Dayam.

Hawes Madigan is a successful businessman leading a million dollar family business by day, along with his twin brother, the IT guru and his sister - attorney for the downtrodden. By night he wears another name, has another job - he's the Prince of Killers, head of a a ring of assassins with a very specific type of target - the guilty - the ones who get away or use the system, who have their frat brothers and family connections get them off - the snakes and predators who should have been caught but aren't because of loop holes. These are the people that the Prince targets. But it wasn't always like that - when the King, his grandfather, ran the show things were a little more ruthless, a little less discriminating and innocent casualties were expected.

But when Hawes took over he changed that - and someone doesn't like it. Someone is gunning for the Prince, and it takes PI Dante Perry to tip him off and then protect him. Hawes reluctantly is forced to trust Dante and let him into his circle, his family, in order to protect them. Letting Perry into his bed is purely selfish, especially when he knows that Dante has his own agenda, a murder he wants solved, a murderer brought to justice... and Hawes knows just who the killer is. What will happen when Dante finds out Hawes' darkest secret? Will he still protect the prince, or deliver the killing blow?

Definitely worth 5 stars - and I'll definitely be reading the entire series because... mind blown!
