Book Review: Give Up The Ghost (Not Dead Yet #2) by Jenn Burke

Give Up the Ghost (Not Dead Yet #2)Give Up the Ghost by Jenn Burke
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The second book in the m/m paranormal series by Jenn Burke hits it out of the park - again!

As a Torontonian can I just say, OMG it is so awesome to have a series set in my city! I _know_ the places that Wes and Hud go to, I've driven those streets, been through those neighbourhoods and the Distillery District is one of my favorite places, any season of the year! Okay, local pride squee done, now for the review.

The second book in the Not Dead Yet series takes place a few months after the conclusion of Not Dead Yet (book 1). Not-really a ghost and immortal Wes Cooper is slowly rebuilding his relationship with silver-fox turned vampire, Hudson Rojas, while trying to build their private investigation business with partners Iskander and Evan - who also happens to be Hud's fledgling. And bestie Lexi is always around to help Wes, as well as act as part time investigator of their new business

But weird crap just keeps happening around Wes, and he's still trying to figure out what happened to him thanks to the Crown of Osiris, how he's _changed_. His magic is off the charts, it's too big for his skin and he's terrified of the power he has and how people - Hud - will react. How it will change how they feel about him. To say that Wes has a few abandonment fears is a bit of an understatement. Imps, tears in the other plane, hauntings and other things just keep sucking Wes back into the paranormal side of things, when Hud and Isk want to avoid the paranormal as much as possible.

When investigating a haunting as a favour for a friend, Lexi is seriously injured, Wes and company stumble across something truly horrific happening to the ghosts of Toronto which, in turn, tie into all hell breaking loose in Toronto. Demons, imps, hellhounds and really really strong ghosts drag Wes, Hud, and company into a case that may demand the ultimate sacrifice in order to save the city and protect everyone from the evil stalking them all. Is Wes ready to lose everything in order to save the city he loves?

Jenn's writing is tight, descriptive and captivating. Her characters enthrall you, the story engrosses you. Yup, I'll be reading the next book too! Definitely on my 'recommend to everyone' list.
